Iration made a big splash on the scene last year with the release of No Time to Rest and through some solid touring, including opening with fellow Hawaiian playboys Pepper on a National Tour. As a follow-up, Sample This is one very cruel release. The new level of songwriting and production is miles ahead of anything the band has done previously and at a meager four songs it is also tragically too short.

Opening track Falling is screaming and begging to be played on mainstream radio. The song draws feelings of high school puppy love and is just way too damn catchy - mainly due to the warmly produced vocals of guitarist Micah. It's this crossover style of reggae ballad that Iration has now truly mastered, as demonstrated by the following three tracks, all also mid-tempo reggae ballads. I would certainly love to meet the girl(s) that inspire this romantic outpouring. She/they must be something very special.

Following on from Falling, I’m With You and Electricity, co-written by fellow Hawaiian musician and Grammy winning producer Charles Brotman, are easily two of the best and memorable tracks the band has also recorded to date. Particulary, I’m With You as it is the most upbeat track featured on the EP with its strong reggae bass bounce.

So talk about building expectations; with Sample This, Iration has more than grabbed my attention and built my anticipation for its next release. I hope and pray the band can seriously deliver and if it does… well… lucky us.
